The Founding of the Palatine Hill

At the birth of the city of Rome, The Palatine Hill was famous because it was the hill where the two twins of legend, Romulus and Remus were nursed by the she-wolf. This also the same hill where supposedly, Romulus began to build the great city. Finally, it was said that Hercules defeated Cacus in a cave around this site. Archaeologists have also found, "Walled villages and tombs have been found here, and the people who lived in those villages seemed to be dominant to their contemporaries since the 700s BCE," (MusesRealm.net, Seven Hills). Evidence shows that the Palatine hill served as the heart of the entire city of Rome later on during the height of the empire. "It would later go on to be surrounded by famous Roman buildings such as The Forum, Circus Maximus, and the Colosseum," (Author unavailable, A View on Cities, Palatine Hill, Rome). Also, probably for its cultural significance, many houses were built on top of the hill as well as palaces for the rich.
