Elegy For Tibullus

In my opinion, this elegy falls under the category of grief to consolation. In my opinion this discusses the grief of the gods to the grief of mortals. "This could also relate to exaggerations as if the gods were saddened by the death of Tibullus or any other mortal," (D Whit). I believe the bulk of this elegy goes into great detail about the woe. However, it seems as if the elegy ends with consolation because the last four lines read as so, "These shades will be your comrades, if any shades there are: you have joined the blessed, elegant Tibullus. May your bones find repose within their sheltering urn, and may earth not lie heavy on your ashes," (Ovid 65-68).
